Made it through! This was a great little experience. It reminded me of a series of old Mac games that I spent a lot of time with as a kid on my family's LC-2 (https://www.amessotrouble.com/). Nice work!
This was a popular genre waaay back in the day. My favorite was Demon's Forge, the first commercial game by Brian Fargo (The Bard's Tale, Fallout). Back then when we made games like this there wasn't enough memory for images so we recorded coordinates to draw lines and flood fills.
this is fun... I got stuck after I got the eye... score of 7. I'll have to think about it and revisit.
Thanks! Did anything happen visually when you got the gem?
Yup, without dropping a spoiler, a thing appeared, but I couldn't figure out how to interact with it. I spent a few minutes throwing every verb I could think of into the prompt.
I pushed up an update yesterday that adds a line to the room's description about that thing when it appears. Hopefully that'll make it clearer for people.
I finished it, I swear I used that phrase before, but it definitely worked this time. Great game! Although I like the Bard's Tales better than the Demon's Forge. If only you had a Dungeon Crawler asset.
